Our story began in 1992, in the village of Bali, Rajasthan, where William and John Bissell saw an urgent need for a school that could transform education in rural communities.
Recognizing the low literacy rates, particularly among women, they set out to create a model school that would empower young people and provide a pathway to opportunity. William Bissell’s years spent working with rural artisans and crafts co-operatives in Jodhpur deeply shaped his understanding of the impact education could have in these under-resourced areas.
Today, TFS stands alone as the only school in Bali, Rajasthan that immerses students in the cultures and customs of the rural Rajasthan.

We have welcomed passionate volunteers from around the world to become a part of our community! Every year, volunteers dedicate one to six months to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring our students. Whether assisting with core curriculum classes or leading extracurricular activities, each volunteer is thoughtfully placed based on their skills, interests, and the school’s needs. Beyond the classroom, volunteers fully immerse themselves in school life—building meaningful connections and creating lasting memories for both themselves and our students.
